A NASCAR driver is unable to compete due to a family emergency.

Due to a family situation, Ty Gibbs will not take part in the NASCAR Cup Series Championship race on Sunday.

The 20-year-decision old's not to compete was first reported by FOX Sports' Bob Pockrass. Later, Daniel Hemric will sit behind the No. 23 Toyota Camry at Phoenix Raceway

For his grandfather's Joe Gibbs Racing team, Ty Gibbs won the Xfinity Series championship on Saturday.

Despite jeers, he won his 11th Xfinity Series race following a turbulent run for the rookie racer.

The victory on Saturday came a week after his teammate's chance to advance to the final four was lost when he collided with Brandon Jones at Martinsville.

In place of Kurt Busch, who hasn't competed since suffering a concussion in July, Gibbs was the 23XI Racing driver. In his 15 Cup Series appearances, he finished as high as tenth.
