After the pit bull assaulted him, a police officer in Massachusetts shot it to death.

According to local television station WCVB, the incident is being looked into by the Wayland Police Department.

The officer, who was bitten many times, was called to the Concord Road home on October 3 after a kid accidentally dialed 911.

A 1-year-old pit bull-Labrador retriever mix rushed the homeowner outside when he opened the door after the officer knocked, the homeowner said to the publication.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, explained to WCVB, "The officer was racing all over the yard, then he leaped up and grabbed him by the arm, and then let go."

"Boom! Boom! Boom!" was the last thing I heard as I was exiting the door.

The dog, which weighed 61 pounds, was shot and later died. The officer's injuries were attended to by an ambulance that arrived on the spot.
