Defensive coordinator and former NFL player died at age 84.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Monday night that former NFL defensive coordinator Walt Corey had gone away. Age-wise, he was 84.

Corey began his football career as a player for the Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Texans. He was an AFL All-Star and two-time champion.

Corey was hired by the Chiefs as their linebackers coach in 1972. In 1975, he was hired as the Cleveland Browns' head coach.

Before moving on to the Buffalo Bills as their defensive coordinator in 1987, Corey spent a considerable amount of time with the Chiefs once more. That was his position till 1994.

Walt Corey's demise is a shock to me and my family, Hunt added. "Walt, a native of Dallas, Texas, joined the club in 1960 and participated in the early development of the business.

He played with the Chiefs for seven years before spending an additional 12 years coaching them.
