Do mosquitoes love you?

Mosquitoes are drawn to certain body odours, which is why some people get bit more than others.

Carboxylic acid attracts mosquitoes. Individual chemical compounds create each person's scent. High carboxylic acid levels attract mosquitoes.

Leslie Vosshall, a neurobiologist at Rockefeller University in New York, said, "If you have high levels of this on your skin, you'll get all the bites."

Changes in grooming habits or diet did not affect an individual's attractiveness to mosquitoes, meaning the levels of these acids remained steady over time.

Years ago, scientists theorised why mosquitoes prefer certain people. No one knew which smell mosquitoes liked until this experiment.

64 participants wore nylon stockings for six hours. Each person's scent was absorbed into the nylon.
