Father of three shot dead after getting caught in hotel gunfight

A father of three who lost his life while on a family weekend trip to a college in upstate New York and was accidentally involved in a shooting in a hotel lobby has been identified.

During a shooting at the Courtyard by Marriott in Poughkeepsie at 7.30 am on Sunday, Paul Kutz, 53, a chartered accountant from Long Island, was struck by a stray bullet

According to a statement from the Poughkeepsie Police Department, Kutz was shot by a.9-mm semi-automatic handgun in the chest and torso. 

He was then transported to the Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital where he was later declared dead.

According to authorities, Roy Johnson, 35, has been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree weapon possession.

Police discovered bomb-making supplies and instructions when searching the suspect's hotel room, according to Poughkeepsie police.
