How Makeup Artists Apply Foundation

"First, I analyse each client's skin. I'll feel their face for dry or oily skin. After that, I use a toner and a moisturiser to balance their skin.

I want soft, supple skin, not a thick layer of unabsorbed product. I might use a skin-type-appropriate primer

Brushes push foundation into the skin better than sponges and give you more control.

Using a foundation brush is faster for me. Armani's foundation brush is my favourite. It's not too wide or too little, so it covers the face quickly.

I adore using a damp, medium-sized blending sponge. Real Techniques' tiny ones are great.

"I work from the face's centre outward with medium pressure. This applies a thin coating to the skin so I can judge which regions require greater covering.
