After they reportedly slowed down to assist a teammate, Cole Custer and his crew chief were given penalties by NASCAR on Tuesday afternoon.
"Mike Shiplett, the crew chief for Cole Custer, has been suspended indefinitely as punishment from Stewart-Haas Racing for the driver's slowdown on the penultimate lap.
$100K in fines. According to NASCAR writer Bob Pockrass, Custer and his team were punished 50 points and fined $100,000.
The inconsistent nature of NASCAR's most recent penalties hasn't gone down well with fans.
Welcome to NASCAR, where deliberately slowing down three vehicles to assist a teammate and manipulating the Chase Grid get you in trouble,
but deliberately placing someone under yellow and influencing the result of a race only gets you a warning," a fan stated.
