(AP) LAS VEGAS — Two people were murdered and six others were injured in stabbings along the Las Vegas Strip by an assailant using a huge kitchen knife, according to authorities.
According to Las Vegas police, who said they started getting 911 reports about the stabbings about 11:40 a.m. across the street from the Wynn casino
and hotel, three individuals were hospitalized in critical condition and another three were in stable condition.
Yoni Barrios, 32, was arrested late on Thursday and charged with two charges of murder and six counts of attempted murder.
Police reported that Barrios, a non-resident of Las Vegas, was stopped while sprinting on a Strip sidewalk by Sands security guards and members of the Metropolitan Police Department.
Metro Police Deputy Chief James LaRochelle issued a statement saying, "This was a unique event." There are currently no fugitives and all evidence points to Barrios acting alone.
