Shohei Ohtani, a baseball star from Japan, creates history.

According to The Japan Times, Shohei Ohtani, a baseball player from Japan, made MLB history by becoming the first player to qualify statistically as both a batter and a pitcher in the same season.

He is one of around 130 players who will rank among the top pitchers and 40 players who will rank among the top hitters in 2022.

The current American League MVP, Ohtani, will compete with New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge for the award this year.

Judge just blasted home run number 62, passing Roger Maris for the single-season AL home run record.

Ohtani pitched 5.0 innings in his final appearance of 2022, giving up one earned run while striking out six.

In 28 starts, the 28-year-old pitcher finished 15-8 with a 2.33 ERA and 219 strikeouts.
