Should Your Dog's Teeth Be Cleaned?

Most people don't know that dogs need their teeth brushed, too. Two-thirds of 3-year-old dogs have gum disease.

Their gums are inflamed or infected. Periodontal disease can cause pain, chewing difficulty, tooth loss, and life-threatening abscesses.

Golden retrievers have as many teeth as Chihuahuas or Yorkies. Food and bacteria are harder to remove from small dogs' teeth with water alone.

Many small dogs don't like sticks. The friction from chewing a stick or toy is a natural toothbrush

No matter the breed, brushing a dog's teeth isn't emphasised enough. Three times a week is the minimum for brushing a dog's teeth.

It's never too late to start brushing your dog's teeth, and most do so with practise. Buy a toothbrush and pet-friendly toothpaste for less than $10, or use your finger.
