Star Yankee Omitted From Postseason Roster

Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports that the AL East winners will not be fielding Aroldis Chapman in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Cleveland Guardians.

The 34-year-old reliever missed a workout without a "acceptable justification," according to manager Aaron Boone.

Chapman, who was once among the most effective closers in the game, was already in danger of being left off the playoff team.

The Yankees may use Chapman's unexcused absence as a handy justification to bench the former star,

who is nearing the conclusion of a three-year, $48 million contract. He could have pitched his final game wearing pinstripes.

When replacing Chapman as the closer, Clay Holmes was fantastic at first, but his ERA increased to 4.84 after the All-Star break. Michael King and Chad Green are both out due to injury.
