Stewart-Haas Racing will contest the NASCAR fine.

Rodney Childers, the crew chief for the No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford Mustang driven by Kevin Harvick, was fined $100,000 and disqualified from four of the last five races of the 2022 season.

The deck lid was then identified as the standard item that SHR is thought to have changed, which is why NASCAR has imposed the penalty.

The driver and team, who were ousted from the playoffs in the first round, are almost certain to place 16th (last) in the standings as a result of the punishment.

Stephen Doran has been named the temporary crew chief for the No. 4 vehicle at the Charlotte Roval for this weekend in the interim.

This was done to guarantee that Childers could see the season finale at Phoenix from the pit box regardless of how the appeal turned out.

There is recent history for NASCAR sanctions being reversed after appeals. Jeremy Clements prevailed in his appeal against the sanctioning body in September.
