Tiger Woods' hole-in-one golf ball might fetch $78,000 at auction.

Bidding is open for two weeks for the then-20-year-Titleist old's via Heritage Auctions.

The stated price tag exceeds USD$50,000 (AU$78,000), which is pricey even for elite country club types.

Woods has won 82 PGA tournaments and 15 majors, but he's only hit two other holes-in-one in 26 years.

"It's hard to compare this ball to anything else," the auction house's sports consignment director remarked.

The backstory almost tops the shot. Bob Gustin and David Beck attended the phenom's 1996 premiere

After Woods' 14th-hole ace, they urged him to throw the ball into the crowd.
