Veteran NASCAR driver declares his return to the Cup Series

According to The Athletic, former NASCAR driver AJ Allmendinger has made the decision to compete in the Cup Series full-time beginning in 2019.

Allmendinger, a 40-year-old driver, will be operating the No. 16 Chevrolet for Kaulig Racing. From 2007 to 2018, the veteran raced in the Cup Series

Allmendinger had intended to work on cars and do some broadcasting, but in 2019, Kaulig Racing asked him to drive their Xfinity car,

and he finally experienced some success on that circuit. He increased his driving schedule after that, which was a wise move.

He won five times in the Xfinity Cup Series, twice each in 2020 and 2021.

He also won the Xfinity Cup Series regular season championship in the same year, which gave him the confidence to compete in the NASCAR Cup series full-time.
